ISTM that this tendency to regard Brits and CW troops as tactically inept when compared to the mighty Germans comes from four main sources:ġ. I've also recently read Harrison-Place's thing on training in the British Army, and he seems to follow the same line. Even though the overall tenor of the book was a defence of 21st AG's operational technique, the author seemed to take it pretty much for granted that British and Canadian soldiers were not as motivated as, nor as tactically competent as, the Germans - any Germans - and that it is somehow cheating or rude to use methods that are "firepower-laden".
